Studio Portraits of Abstract Artist Emily Fox King

No matter the medium or service— showing is better than telling. Great images of great work that tell great stories attract new opportunities, connections, collectors, perspectives, fans, followers, and friends.

I’ve worked with dozens of creatives in my 15 year career. I specialize in capturing intricate details, textures, spaces, colors, processes, and the cohesive themes that define each artist’s unique style.

Studio Portraits That Capture Art and Artist

Working with Ashley validates me as a professional and helps me present myself as a serious artist and entrepreneur. Documenting myself through time and capturing a moment in my creative journey. I feel Seen. Special. Like my art and presenting myself as an artist matters.”

Utah artist and teacher Emily Fox King and I have worked together for more than 6 years. Our latest session aimed at creating story-telling photographs of Emily’s studio, her latest body of work, and updated portraits for her site, newsletter, and social media.

A Collaborative Approach to Artist Photography

My work style is collaborative and our collaboration begins at booking.

My pre-session intake process plays an important part. Through questionnaires and conversations, we uncover your goals—from newsletter images to process depictions—ensuring all your needs are met.

As for the session day-the experience is laid back and enjoyable. Clients often say, “That was so easy” and it is. It can also feel a bit vulnerable and be accompanied by a whirlwind of new ideas and the motivation to move yourself and your art forward.

The experience of being seen is a two way street and feeling comfortable doing it, takes time. I work in an out-of-time way that suspends the linear and allows us to celebrate and sit with your art. I watch you work, you show me stuff, we move things around, we notice things, and document them. I’ll ask all kind of questions and pretty soon we’re bouncing ideas and making pictures of you, your messes and messages, mediums, and tools. We’ll make plenty of pitstops in the process keeping us both focused and open and, after an hour or two, we’ll know we’re done.

Emily sums up the process nicely,

“I trust (Ashley) as she directs me through the session. The creative process unfolds and we respond together to the cues, lighting, props and subjects that presented themselves. Basically we vibe off of each other…”

Working with Emily continues to be a privilege, and I’m excited to see how these images support her evolving journey as an artist and teacher. Connect with Emily via her site HERE or Instagram HERE
